Spring 2025 Saturday Sessions

Short-Form Videos & Playful Polaroids

Our Spring 2025 Saturday Sessions welcomed many Beginner and Returning Girls Code Savannah students. Each Beginner student coded their first Student Website. Our Returning Students updated the code for the hero section of SAVYouthMentoring.org, our 2024 Winter Camp Community Client Website, to resemble playful Polaroid pictures. They also delved into various aspects of creating short‐form videos and then learned how to code the videos to display on a website.

Some students chose to create short-form videos that were camera-facing. Other students chose to overlay their own creative text and/or voice atop freely-available short-form videos found on Pexels. Tap the play buttons below to watch some of the student-created, short-form videos.

Fall 2023 Saturday Sessions

Building Websites That Really Stack Up

This fall Girls Code Savannah held four FREE "Saturday Sessions" among the stacks of the Live Oak Public Libraries. The sessions took place from 11:00 AM ‐ 1:30 PM on consecutive Saturdays from Oct 14th - Nov 4th and were held at a different library location each week.

Many girls attending the Fall 2023 Saturday Sessions learned real-world coding skills for the first time. They used HTML & CSS coding languages to build their own websites from a blank screen.

Our returning Summer Camp 2023 students continued to advance their website coding skills during these sessions. They learned additional HTML & CSS code to add dynamic graphics to the websites they began coding in July. The code to create a rotating photo gallery like the one seen above is one example.

The Saturday Sessions photos seen rotating here are a sample of those taken and donated by one of Savannah's top event photographers, Bud Johnson. His generous gift will greatly support Girls Code Savannah advertising efforts as we continue to work to get the word out about this important program.

We are incredibly thankful to all members of the Savannah community who donate their time, talents, and resources in support of this rapidly-growing community of tech-talented girls. Please contact us or donate if you would like to provide support.

Summer Camp 2023

Web Development Takes Flight

At our first ever Girls Code Savannah Summer Camp, campers were flying high!

Our FREE Summer Camp was held July 10-14 at the Georgia Southern University-Armstrong Campus. The theme was centered around aerospace and aviation.

Campers visited Fly Corps Aviation, where female pilots and flight instructors shared their career journeys, and the Fly Corps Aviation team treated campers to an up-close look at flight-related technologies and aircrafts on the hanger.

Back at the Georgia Southern University computer lab, campers built computer games using MIT Scratch and coded their own websites using HTML and CSS.

Camp ended with a Camp Showcase where campers showed off their new computer games and websites to Savannah community leaders, the local media, family, and friends.

Thank You to Fly Corps Aviation & Our Summer Camp 2023 Sponsors!
